Re-colored Mittens

So, here a I am, past the thumb point and they're way too big. But, let me start with the first points about this recoloring thing. I realized I wanted to get the light blue in there, but I knew that I would have to introduce it before it melds with the orange. I added the blue band of course without thinking about how much longer it would make the mitten. It's already supposed to be 10 inches in length.

My tension starting out is way too tight, but then by the time I got to the top of the leaves, it evened out. These may end up not actually being worn, but that may be okay. It's been a while since I just played like this and considering the other projects I'm working on right now, it's kinda fun.

The part I am happy about is the retro look that I was going for. Doing the peasant thumb where the pattern matches up should be interesting. I've never done patterned hand-ware at all. Posted by Picasa

This is so beautiful! Love the colors you chose. It is odd I was not too crazy about Fair Isle (yet)...but this makes me want to try it. I really like the anitque look.

I do like the combination of the pale blue and the orange, very retro-in-a-good-way. And the way the pattern brings them together really works for my eyes.

(BTW, Ginny is also knitsib Emily)

Yes, I"m trying to approach fair isle from a new direction for me. I don't know if I'll make more mittens, but I'm considering a vest.

I really like the colors on this M.
Too bad you don't have any friends with really large hands! :-)

Very interesting colours choices! I like it. I scrolled back down and saw what you mean about the thumb pattern matching. sheesh! I am just about a quarter done on my second mitten ever. Very simple. I'm good with that for now.

This is so funny that you all like the colorway because I was briefly a colorist in the printed design textile business.

Speaking of Fairisle, though. Today I saw a whole coat done at Talbot's (USA women's clothing store) that was just gorgeous! I cannot imagine, and would surely not knit something that large at that gauge!I did not go in and look at the price.

Hello,

I am new to your blog (found via Ravelry) and I love these mittens! The colors are so lovely. Is there a shot of the finished product? Do you know where the pattern could be found, I would love to try to make a similar pair...

Thanks!

oops, I just realized that you named the book where this pattern can be found in your previous post. Still, it gives me another chance to say, gorgeous blog, lovely colors (leaves and knitting alike...)
