Wool Sock Washing Day

This wet pile represents all the socks that I've knit for myself that I actually wear. I guess you can see that I put off washing them until it's dire. Superwash? What's that? I'll make socks out of almost anything, often to my frustration when it get's this bad in the bottom of the hamper. Posted by Picasa

Ugh. This is why I am happy that my first pair of sockish things I just started yesterday are from superwash. Not sure who is going to receive as they are an experiment.

About a year ago (I think it was May 2005) the Yarn Harlot blogged about her sock washing method. Basically, don't think of socks as laundry. Think of them as personal hygiene. Leave them on when you get in the bath, wash them there, squeeze, dump over the side onto a towel, enjoy the rest of your bath, dry yourself, squeeze the socks in the towel and hang them to dry. I've never tried it but it sounds like just the thing.

Now, that would be a good idea, JoVe, if there weren't so many other personal grooming things to be done in the shower!
We'll see come winter...
