Bigger and Better Than Ever!

Yay! Teeth! Sweater from Aunt Melissa!

Cal you all believe how much the boy Benjamin has grown? Since you've seen him he's traveled to Guatamala and Germany. At some point he may travel beyond countries that start with the letter G, but there's always Greenland and... No, he can go where ever he wants, although his mother at this point would prefer shorter airplane rides.

I had fun making this sweater for his 1st birthday and used some stash yarn and some antique plastique buttons. It just fits. I got the pattern here.

Was really fun and easy to knit and didn't take much yarn at all.

Sock Contest Winners!

Okay, the two completely random, eyes closed and picked off the list winners are....Jersey Knitter and Michele LB. I just contacted both of them. I'm afraid I don't have a picture of the yarn they've won because it's night time and I want to take pictures tomorrow in better light. But, I wanted to post this right away so ya'll would know who won.

Thank you so much to EVERYONE who entered. This was great fun and I hope you all got some more traffic to your blogs and sites and got a kick out of seeing all the collages.

Cheater

Well, that's how I feel. I know it's a real method of spinning but this is what I did. I spun a single ply of laceweight merino and bamboo and then plied it with a strand of this lovely bamboo from Habu.

This is the still laceweight that I ended up with:

Vicki

Hi Melissa,I just started knitting socks in October of 2007, and I've knit six pairs since then. They are attached in order as follows:
1. Jaywalkers, my first socks
2. Magic Stripes Toe-Up Socks, my first toe-ups
3. Hedera Socks, my first lace
4. Toe-Up Eye of Partridge Heel Socks, with crazy pooling
5. Toe-Up Seduction Socks
6. Kaffe Fassett Toe-Up Socks

I currently have five other pairs on the needles, and I'm getting ready to cast on more. Clearly the sock bug has bit me hard. I think this is such a fun idea, and I love looking at other people's collections.

The link to my blog is http://knit.vickilicious.com/, where I have full write-ups of all the socks I've been knitting. Thanks, and happy knitting!-- Vicki (vickilicious on Ravelry)

Hi Melissa,I read about your great idea of an unusual contest on Ravelry and would like to participate :) Enclosed I send you pics of all the socks I knit since last summer. Only one pair is missing: The most boring socks ever, black socks in simple stockinette for a 75 year old man. After I had finished them I couldn't even bare to take a pic. Some remarks to the others:

1. Socks for my best friend, with the lace pattern from the Horcrux Socks.
2. Toddler socks for my nephew
3. Lacy socks from Regia Bamboo
4. Some selfdyed yarn with an improvised pattern on the cuff
5. Simple ribbed socks
6. Something lacy from a cotton blend yarn, given away
7. Simple stockinette, but strange pooling for the monsterfeet of my husband
8. Slipped stitched spirals from selfdyed yarn, given away
9. Broadripples from Regia cotton, quite colorful and given away
10. Wonderfully pooling socks for my brother, plain stockinette
11. Riper Rapid Socks, yarn is Fortissima Bamboo - these are favorites of mine
12. Thuja Socks from a cotton blend, another birthday gift

I just had to discover that I gave away 9 of my 13 pairs of the last months. This has to change. Thanks a lot for this realisation!

Best regards from ViennaNantke aka DeusXMachina (at Ravelry)

CONTEST NEWS AGAIN

I stated in the original contest email that we would stop when we hit 10k. I had not idea that I would have around 500 hits in three days. Crazy! It makes sense as a contest, but I'd actually like to have some more folks, considering that I'm giving away 2 prizes AND I want to see more socks. So....the contest will go for one more week. The end date will be May 2oth, 12 am, PST.

Good luck everyone and I'm loving your work.

So Close

As I write this there are about 19 more views to go until I hit 10,000. I know I'll be sleeping or something and miss the actual moment so I thought I'd write something now.

A little bit of revealing of self here. I'm a writer. I mean, I consider myself a writer. My card says, that amoung other things, I am a writer. I haven't been writing. I barely write here and in a way, I sense that my blog readers have seriously noticed this. When I really WRITE something, I get far more comments than where I post a picture or two...or ten.

So, tonight I will christen the next 10,000 moments on this blog with a departure. A poem.

Knife

Walking out onto the the edge, where all is
glitter
I wonder if I squint will I be able to
see the
drop off
the sharp dive
in the blinding light
or if I will trip
and sail over the knife
slicing
severing my attachments
dull and soft and heavy
on the way down
to the core
seeds flicked off the edge of
knife in August light
watermelon seeds black
in sweet flesh
touched by blade
this blood touched steel...
lazy wasps
gather.

We will now continue with our regularly programmed knitting content.

Vegan Knitter (Emily)

The first sock is from a Cascade Kit. The sock is 100% cotton Cascade Elite and the pattern was called Lace Rib Socks. These are for me.
The second is a simple toe-up short row toe and heel using the basic pattern from Simple Socks Plain and Fancy with Regia Nation sock yarn for my mother, who is a Germanophile.
The last photo is newborn-size socks I made for a charity knitting event with my LYS group to raise money to clean up the SF Bay oil spill in the fall. I made 15 of them but only two were photographed.

Michele LB

Hi, Melissa!

Saw your contest on ravelry and on pdxknitbloggers. Cool idea! Here are the socks that I've made since July:

Entrelac socks (the purple/green combo; yarn is Yarntini superwash sport, color is Pure Fall)
Not entrelac socks (blue/violet ribbed socks) made with LavenderSheep superwash
and the orange/yellow zigzag lace pedicure socks

The entrelac socks and zigzag lace socks are both patterns from my blogsite, and the "not entrelac socks" are just plain vanilla socks out of my head.

My blog is at http://pdxknitterati.wordpress.com/ and I'm MicheleLB on Ravelry. See you there!

Hi. Here are my socks. Not as many as I expected. I can only plead that I stopped to knit a bunch of lace and a couple of baby sweaters. And I sort of lost my sock mojo with the stripy (clown barf) socks, but it's back now. Here's the run-down:
-- Beach Socks - from Cat Bordhi's "Coriolis" pattern, with my own tweaks
-- Blue Brick Wall - my own pattern
-- Bo Diddley Socks - my own pattern
-- Stripy Socks - otherwise known as Clown Barf socks - plain stockinette / short-row heel
-- Corrugations & Cables - Cat Bordhi's pattern
-- Java Leaf Socks - made for Sockapalooza 4
-- Sock for key chain sock blocker - gift to my Sockapalooza spoilee
-- Salish Sea Socks - Cat Bordhi pattern, from the 2007 Rockin' Sock Club
-- Rowan Margaret's Silken Slippers - yet another Cat Bordhi pattern, this one for wee feetAnd a couple of things that may not qualify as socks, per se, or may if you consider tube socks:two iPod Nano socks. I also knit one for my iPod Touch, but I don't have a picture of it.

Anne of Knitspot Fame

Okay, so I totally knew that I was "baiting" Anne when I emailed her about my contest. I knew she couldn't pass it up and I also knew it would be a great addition.

If you click her name you'll get her store and her blog is here.

I can't resist... here are my socks...(if only I hadn't made so many MITTENS at xmas time... I'd have that many more...)

CONTEST NOTE

Folks, I would prefer if you could send the photos as an attachment to an email rather than a flickr link. That's taking more time for me and I want to be able to get these up as quickly as they come in.

Also, what you send me is what you send me. I can't really update your collage. It's not about how many, it's just that you're doing it!

And lastly, if you don't want me to use a link to your blog let me know, because other wise I will. If you want me to link to your email address I can do that if folks have questions.

Thanks!

Katy

Hi~My count is 12...but 8 of those are from about March 10, 2008 - April 24, 2008. I made 4 pair from late December 2007 through February 3rd 2008. 1 not shown because they were just like the middle pair picture of 3. And it was acrylic yarn...I'll knit with anything but fear yarn snob ridicule. (Not really! ;) "Oh, look! Mom posted ANOTHER picture of SOCKS on her blog!!" I took last summer & fall off from knitting socks after participating in Sock Madness 1 in March 2007 (everyone who joins is mailed a pattern and specs and begin knitting a pair of socks; fastest move on like sweet 16 in Basketball March Madness) The 8 since March 2008 are fairly well documented on my blog, Socks Have NO THUMBS! I made it as through round 4 again in Sock Madness 2 - the reason for 4 pair of the 8 during March & April. In between rounds I did the other 4 pair while waiting for the next pattern.(And I suppose I should admit to having 3 pair on needles, in various stages of doneness! One is 72 stitches on size 0 needles so I'm taking a break from the second sock and working on the round 6 pattern from the sidelines of Sock Madness :)

Happy (almost) 10000 blog posts anniversary!

Hello Well I just shocked myself. I knit 8 adult pairs of socks since July and 2 children's.I am sending you flickr links because I think that would be easier.

Entralec socks
BIL Camo socks
Dog Boy's socks to match BILs camo socks
September mystery socks
Twisted Flower socks

Busy but loving every minute

The first picture is an old wip pic of plain jane heel flap sock for my mom, the second picture is the first in a pair I'm working on now, the third picture is of three pairs I have finished for myself. Two plain with short row heels and the third (the green) is a Monkey by Cookie A. The fourth is a shot of my first sock ever. ^_^ Unpictured because they were already gifted: four pairs of socks for my four nuclear family members. Total knit for others: 4 Total knit for self: 5. -Sam L. Knoxville, TN

Barb in AZ

This is what everyone's post will look like. Barb is the first one to send to me. The name of the person is the link to their Blog. If you want to ask them questions about what pattern is what, you can write to them via their blogs, please.
Okay, who's next?

The People Have Spoken

And, here is your chance at SOCK FAME. Yes, I've just coined the phrase.
This contest is all about the fact that I have some friends who really cannot believe how many sock knitters there are out there. Total disbelief. So, this is what we're gonna do.
From now until we hit the 10,ooo views mark, all of you are going to do one thing:
Send me pictures of EVERY SOCK you knit since last July.

I am going to put each person's socks in a post, just for them with a link to their blog if they have one. Yes, ALL OF THEM.

Then, when I have them all up I'm going to put your names in a hat and make a drawing. I will draw two person's names out of that hat.

Each person will get 4oz of my handspun sock yarn.

You must mail all your pictures to me at my email address with a name that you want used on my blog.
That would be knitfemme@aol.com

Green (S)Leaves II

Hey, here's a milemarker for the day: 9,500 views which means that it will be more than 10,000 by July 22, my first day of counting anniversay. YAY! This honestly makes me happy. I should do something towards honoring my readers on that day. Something to think about...

Meanwhile, back at the kitten ranch, I finished the third sock in the trio of socks and here we go.

Green(S)leaves

The front
The back

Right now I'm knitting a single sample sock called Autumn in Oregon.

At first it drove me nuts, but I think I was just tired when I started it last night. So, now it's really fun...but I'm tired again so I'd better put it aside for the day. This is the first time that I've done the top trim flat, sewn it together and then knit down. See, there's always a first when I do sample or test knitting. That's why I do it: to force myself to learn new techniques that do not immediately strike me as fun.

Days of Tea and Spinning

No, I'm not changing the title of my blog, but I have more finished spinning projects than knitting projects these days. My favorite is half done, above. It's a handpainted colorway from Crown Mountain Farms, called Stonehenge. I hope to have the fortitude to buy more, spin more and knit a sweater or vest from it.
This is more burgandy than the photo shows, but this is what I was working on when I was at the Alpaca Extravagaza. (That name just cracks me up). It's merino and alpaca and I have no idea where it came from, only that I bought it at OFFF last year.
This is what I am saving up for a rainy day to spin. It is more delicious than you can imagine. You know you want to touch it...
